Puck, of the Rockers Group, asked if a "Chick" could ever successfully front a band. My reply, hells yes!! My quick pick below...The Pretenders first album was on par with any other of that time period. They then became a very solid Rock, classic rock act.
That said, its hard, very very hard and rare. The problem...success!! Lets face it any lead, male or female, gets the big head pretty quickly after the band makes it big. With chicks its more pronounced, because the pay off is bigger, quicker...especially if they're hot!! Then they are more a commodity and pop and the rock n roll is the first thing to go.
Santa Claus and his old lady is probably my favorite, but, I started with it...here's the other all time classic:

CLASS 5A, DIVISION II FINAL
Katy offers a big show of togetherness
High school football is the top priority in town. And tonight, all eyes will be on the beloved Tigers when they take the field seeking their fifth championship
Copyright 2007 Houston Chroni
Along Interstate 10 west of Katy Mills Mall, the Tinseltown movie theaters and the assortment of chain restaurants, sits the area called Old Katy, home of the four-time state champion Katy Tigers football team.
The high school is about five miles away from the part of the highway sprawling with shopping centers, but it feels like worlds away.
The area is quaint and still has small-town charm. Moreover, the community rallies behind its school.
And tonight, Katy will attempt to become the 14th University Interscholastic League school in Texas football history to win five state titles when the Tigers face Pflugerville in the Class 5A Division II championship game at the Alamodome in San Antonio (KNWS, Ch. 51 on television, 700 AM on radio).
It would be hard to find a square foot of land without a "Go Tigers" sign along Avenue D or a pickup truck driving down Farm-to-Market 1463 without a red-and-white flag hanging out of the window in Old Katy this week.
"The tradition here is unlike anywhere else," defensive back Trent Hunter said. "It's not just this school that works toward state championships. It's this whole town."
'Winning the right way'
Katy's first state title was in 1959, long before the growth of the nation's fourth largest city had reached the town. While the coaches and players have changed since then, the way of Katy football has not.
"The tradition of Katy football just means playing as a team, everyone doing his job and representing yourself in a way that will make Katy proud," quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell said. "It's about winning, but winning the right way."
The numbers are impressive to say the least.
The Tigers have won 23 district championships and 10 regional championships. They have a 58-15 playoff record since 1980 and have not had a losing season since 1985. Their playoff winning percentage ranks second in 5A history behind Converse Judson, which also is playing for a state title today against Euless Trinity.
"There is a lot to live up to here, but it's so much fun to be a part of it," Hunter said. "The tradition, the trophy cases, the way fans get involved. It's all really exciting."
The community is well aware of the school's accomplishments.
"You see signs everywhere with the 1959, 1997, 2000, 2003 (the years of Katy's state titles) and then at the very end it has 2007 photo shopped in," Hunter said. "Everybody's getting ready for it."
An elite group
The UIL schools to win five or more state titles are Plano, Southlake Carroll, Brownwood and Celina (seven each); Converse Judson, Odessa Permian, Wichita Falls, Waco, Abilene and Breckenridge (six); and La Marque, Sealy and Fort Hancock (five).
"They might be one of the most consistent (5A) programs in the last 20 years," said Jake Shaw, managing editor of Dave Campbell's Texas Football. "There's a small handful of 5A teams that year in and year out are a factor in the playoffs, and Katy is one of those. If I had to list the five best (5A) teams going right now, Katy would be one of them, Southlake Carroll would be one, then it's an argument for the other three spots."
Katy coach Gary Joseph said the idea of bringing home a fifth state title has him ready to take the field tonight.
"If it doesn't help motivate (the players), it sure helps motivate me," he said.
The Tigers (15-0) also hope to join the 1959, 1997 and 2000 squads as the only unbeaten teams in school history.
"We have come a long way and won 15 games this season," running back Aundre Dean said. "That is a pretty meaningful accomplishment. We'd love to cap it off with one more win."

'Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town'
--Bruce Springsteen (1981)
Even though he's darn near as sainted as St. Nick himself, Bruce is capable of laying the occasional lump of coal. We've got no beef with rollicking through this sloppy number live, but do radio stations really have to play it 5,000 times every December? And, yeah, we get it ... Clarence wants a new sax.
In fairness this wasn't so bad in KMET days because they'd just slip it in every so often, you'd hear it maybe a half dozen times, no more than Santa Claus and his old lady or any other classic.
SAN ANTONIO — The Katy Tigers got tested on Saturday, and they passed.
In fact they got an A-plus.
Katy struggled early against San Antonio Madison, but the Tigers found their way and went on to beat the Mavericks 66-21 to advance to the 5A Division II state title game.
"That was the best defense we have seen all year," Katy quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell said. "They really gave it to us in the first half, but we have the kind of coaches who can make adjustments. We made them and got the job done."
The Tigers will make the return trip to the Alamodome next Saturday at 7 p.m. to play Pflugerville, a 20-14 overtime winner over Abilene, in the 5A Division II state championship.
After Katy went up 7-0 early in the first, the Madison defense struck. Defensive back Andrew Green picked off a Katy pass and returned it 82 yards for a touchdown.
Katy scored again on a 26-yard catch by Terrence Avie, but Madison came right back, tying the game again, when Brendan Skipworth caught a 22-yard pass from Bryan Ehrlich.
In that first quarter, the Tigers went three-and-out on three straight drives.
"After I threw that interception, it was obvious they had momentum and were fired up and we struggled getting our offense going," Mitchell said.
A big part of that was the fact that the Tigers' running game was pretty much non-existent. Aundre Dean had just 19 yards midway through the second quarter and if Katy's defense hadn't been solid from the start, the score might have been much different.
"I wasn't really frustrated," Dean said. "Our defense was great and (Mitchell) had made some good plays. I knew eventually the holes would open up."
With just under four minutes left until halftime, they certainly did. Avie had another stellar catch, for 30 yards, on a fourth-and-5, to put Katy on the Madison five yard line.
On the ensuing play, Dean took the ball in five yards for the score to put Katy up 21-14.
The Tigers never looked back. They took the momentum with them into halftime since Mitchell found Joey Fuda for 54 yards and a touchdown with 11 seconds left until the break. At the half, Katy led 28-14.
"At halftime, Coach (Gary) Joseph told us to breathe, then (Dean) told us to look to the guy to our left and the guy to our right and say 'I got you,"' Mitchell said. "We just needed to go back out and play our game."
The next six times the Tigers touched the ball, they scored.
Tight end Marc Ferris caught a five yard pass in the endzone to start the second half, then Dean went on to score two consecutive touchdowns. In the meantime, the Katy defense held Madison to three-and-outs on its first three drives.
"We knew that if we kept holding them, the offense would score," defensive back Terrence Frederick said.
Katy went up 56-14 just before the fourth quarter when Joey Fuda returned a punt for 60 yards and the score. The Tigers scored another touchdown and a field goal to cap off the game. Madison put up seven more points late in the fourth on a Joey Boyd catch.
"In the second half, the kids just played their hearts out," Joseph said. "They struggled in the beginning but they listened to their coaches, listened to each other and dug deep."
The Tigers get one more test this year.
"We got here and we have the opportunity to play for a state championship," Joseph said. "More importantly, we have more than a chance to play for win, we have the chance to win the title."
"When excellence becomes tradition, greatness has no limits."
This was easily my favorite classic rock carole when I was younger...mugging Santa Claus, good guitar rif...hasn't stood the test of time with me, but, still good for the list:
Strolling through a mall in Lake Charles, La, while on business I was pretty pleased with the deal I got on the latest Zep greatest hit package - Mothership. $13.99 new vs. $14+ used on Amazon.com and thats for two CDs and a DVD.
Greatest hits are tricky because they always leave something out and you go "what were they thinking??" Mothership is no different, though I will say that out of the 24 songs, I really like 21 and agree that 2 of the 3 that I don't like are classic Led Zeppelin, I've just never cared for the songs personally.
But, on the "what were they thinking"...my first pet peeve on a Led Zeppelin compilation is when you come to Heartbreaker...what are you expecting right after...Livin Loving Maid of course! For you youngsters reading, do you know why? I think the story goes: back in the day of vinyl records the songs were back to back on the record and the groove between them was too narrow and the radio DJs couldn't stop Heartbreaker before Livin Loving Maid started, so, after a few screw ups they just said tahell with it!?! On the four disc set I've got and I think I had the cassette of LZ II...the songs aren't back to back...it sucks you just expect "go away heartbreakerrrrrrrrr..with a purple umbrella..."
Ok, so, the songs need to be back to back which is even more difficult on Mothership because Livin Loving Maid didn't make the album!!! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING???
4. Katy, Texas (13-0)
Previous: 4. Result: QB Bo Levi Mitchell threw for 284 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-14 playoff win vs. Pasadena Memorial. Next: Playoffs, Friday vs. Clements.

In Houston, and I'm sure around the country, the soft rock station has gone Holiday music 24/7. I'm old now, so, I enjoy it ok. But, there's some old classics that never make Sunny 99.1...I call in every year and request Santa Claus and his old lady and they act shocked, its become our little Christmas tradition.
Anyway, since my first post wasn't really a rock song or really a song at all, I'll go with this classic...its not really my second favorite, but, I'll get there:
